Proposed ordinance changes
TO: All Broyhill Park Residents
RE: Zoning Modernization (zMod)
Message from the Broyhill Park Civic Association as forwarded from the Mason District Council of Community Associations
Over 70 speakers testified at the March 9th public hearing held by the Board of Supervisors on the county’s new draft zoning ordinance (“zMod”), which contains controversial proposed changes that loosen regulations on accessory apartments in single-family detached homes (ALUs), Home-Based Businesses (HBBs) and outdoor Accessory Structures. The vast majority of speakers opposed the proposed changes because of concerns over negative impacts on neighborhoods (unplanned density, commercialization).
The Board of Supervisors did not ask one question related to ALUs or HBBs at the public hearing. They have deferred their decision until March 23. Here is the video of the hearing beginning at 3 hr 40 min 25 seconds http://video.fairfaxcounty.gov/player/clip/2019?view_id=7&redirect=true. Listen to the interesting observation by Supervisor Herrity at 8 hr 32 min 20 secs.
